From my Monday vantage point
Everything looks bleak.
I haven't had my coffee yet.
I can't even speak.

I lost my keys. My car won't start.
I just bumped my head.
My allergies are acting up.
I'm out of Sudafed.

The coffee stain that's on my shirt
Could have its own zip code.
I just can't seem to get myself
Out of weekend mode.

You'd thing that as the day goes on
I'd start to make progress,
But Monday rears its ugly head.
Now I'm a bigger mess.

Home from work. It's five o'clock.
Dinner's on the table.
Then to help with math homework.
If only I were able.

Fold the clothes and grade some tests
And kiss the kids goodnight.
My story needs an ending, and
It's finally time to write.

I put my pencil on the page.
I scratch a couple words.
My thoughts are jumbled in my head.
This story's for the birds.

I give up and brush my teeth
And tidy up a tad.
I hope tomorrow's better,
But Tuesday's just as bad.

I look forward to the weekend,
So I can write all day.
But from my Monday vantage point,
It's just so far away.

Yes, very nice. I'm a "triumph of the common man" sort of guy. I do enjoy work that, if not glorifying at least honoring the dignity of pressing on.

Ah Monday

It's not so much Monday, just the fact that every day from Tuesday to Friday afternoon is also Monday.

Good work, loved the emotional exhaustion that seems to come through.

Doh! Typo.

Think, not thing. Just listen to it instead, OK? ;-)
