The rain has stopped
the sky still dripping
the moon is waning
my footing slipping,
Up the slippery slope
of time
held in rhythm
of some rhyme,

Couplets tied
like couples walking
through the woods
sometimes talking,
About the future
about the past
pebbles in the lake
cast,

Concentric ripples
waves of time
each has rhythm
each has rhyme,
Each discreet
but tied together
like the moon
the changing weather,

Half-way in
and half-way out
the misty woods
and self-doubt,
Hand-in-hand
with time, retention
memories and
good intention,

Later at some café
sipping
cups of coffee
the balance tipping,
Afternoon becoming
night
decision time
by moonlight,

What to do
with whom, and where
walk or drive?
what to wear,
Peace or war
pro or con
at least twelve hours
until dawn,

In my cryptic notes
I write
the weather and
the moonlight,
We say goodbye
we say hello
drink our coffee
and then go ...
