Sinuously serpentine slivers of light,
inwardly, downwardly, ever descending
celestial snakes that crawl in the night.

Caught in the jaws of the deadly bite;
maddeningly, saddening, never-in-ending
sinuously serpentine slivers of light.

Their color as pale as white on white,
their evil unknown and uncomprehending
celestial snakes that crawl in the night.

Waiting bone-weary with palpable fright,
dodging the signals they ever are sending,
sinuously serpentine slivers of light.

Hark to the doom we hear them recite,
their slithering tails like tongues extending,
celestial snakes that crawl in the night.

Seeking with horror and forced to the sight,
facing the truth of our dying, impending.
Sinuously serpentine slivers of light,
celestial snakes that crawl in the night.
