Flock like moths
Safety in you, light
Hooded in shadow
Unknowable you, dark
Distance begrudged
Never understanding
Press for space and
Bridges unbuilt, to span
This gulf between you
And yours
It is too deep, impenetrable
You are the light to which
We draw near
We hover, we stay
But we cannot touch
There is a causeway
You made that
We, your children,
Blind to its substance,
Attempt to appreciate
You, all
Radiant and lovely,
Lovingly you bathe
Our fluttering wings
With dreams of futures
Bright
Like you,
Our mother
