MY CHRISTMAS TREE

So that nobody can say that I didn’t try,
I have got, with bells and whistles, my Christmas tree,
I have memorized its programme, by and bye,
its illumination does not seem so free.

It is five to seven cycles from what I gather,
slow and fast, illuminating, on and off,
I forget the rest, is that or is the other?
I cannot think what it does remind me of.

Anyhow, I've got it set all nice and proper,
cards and gifts correctly placed underneath,
proof that I'm a bona fide Christmas shopper,
and I still have got someone to share it with.

I was out, met a friend, exchanged wishes,
now I'm in, watching it go through its routine,
I've got mine, all involved with Christmas dishes,
endless cycle of coming out and going in.
