Summer seared across my back
as the desert sky baked,
blistered, and burned in a ceaseless season.
Now cool breezes tug my curls
as the tender season returns.

The wind murmurs there's no change finer
Than the sigh from major to minor.

Crows have come to shuffle off
the weak and weary day
while brilliant lightening rings the mountaintops.
I dance barefoot on dusty concrete
steps heavy with dead, black beetles

Tonight, I find no change finer
Than the step from major to minor

I cannot remember rain
or see the changing trees
as leaves shift to auburn, gold, and scarlet.
Yet, the world takes unhurried breaths
as through the seasons' wheel she turns

I pray that this life becomes finer
as I slip from major to minor.
