Lying under a Mesquite tree,
when my arms cross to make a pillow,
when clean blue heavens form a backdrop,
when the sloping sun goldens each leaf's edge,
when the wind dances with the branches,

I look up and slip between the seconds
between each drowsy breath.

I fall into the thoughtless pool of being
and dance within sun and wind, heaven and flesh.
