I should have gotten away from you long before I did.
The responsibility is mine.
I broke the rules, and you let me, with a gentle reminder, but I was the one to veer.
I knew how dangerous it was, but I was too far gone to care.
I tried to keep it locked up but that only made me feel worse.

I loathed to love you so much, that to say those words to you made me physically ill.
It was as if I had swallowed poison and it burned me through and through.
The knowledge that I needed you twisted my guts,
and choked my heart with fear.

I knew better than to stay and let you singe me.
But, in the end, I got too close to your fire.
I was hypnotized by your molten flames,
the orange, red, yellow of our passion.
I didn't think that it would be so incendiary.
The ashes cold and gray...
I am the one to blame.

Interesting.....

...if a little confusing. Is it about infidelity? ["I was the one to veer"] Or a one-sided relationship? ["hypnotized by your molten flame"]. If it written for a particular person who's in the know it's moot but you have exposed it to us all. Some poetry has mystery that leaves the reader to "fill in the blanks" but you've given almost too much of the story - yet not enough.
