My Lips Remember Your Kisses

When the daffodils bloom my lips remember your kisses;
When the plum blooms my eyes remember your striking beauty;
When the cherries bloom my cheek remembers your scented touch;
When the apples bloom my hands remember your silken hair;
When the roses bloom my nose remembers your scented breath;
When the lilac blooms my ears remember your flute-like voice.
If memory had the power to bring the past to life
You would live in my arms this day as ever yesterday,
As real as the flesh, as real as the memory of flesh.
I would give you butterfly kisses upon your eyelids;
You would give me breathy moist kisses upon my ear lobes.
We would writhe in ecstasy in each others’ fierce embrace.
But memory does not bring back the dead and vanished past:
It only reminds us of how empty the present is.
