You might think me weak,
You might deem me unimportant,
But what you think of me doesn't matter,
I don't care if you love me or hate me,
It makes no difference.

My life is my own,
Not yours to control,
I am my own person,
I have a brain with which to think,
I have the ability to form my own opinions.

I have my own dreams,
My own aspirations,
What you want for me is not what I want,
I want my own family,
My own things.

If that bothers you so what,
I don't have to abide by the path you set for me,
I can make my own trail,
My own mistakes,
And it will be okay.

You may not understand now,
You may not understand ever,
But I will have peace,
Because I did what I thought was right,
Not what you said was right.

I thank you for your guidance,
For your thoughts,
I will take them into consideration,
When I make my choices,
Thank you for everything you did for me but I'm going to make my own path now.
