Hoot of a solitary owl
Cry of a whipoorwill
Lonely sound in the night
A rustle in the underbrush
Some small rodent running for it's life
As the owl ghosts by
His wingspan seems so wide against the moonlit sky
A whisper of wind, like a lover's sigh
Gently lifts my hair and brushes my face
On it's way by to who knows where
The moon waxes bright above the trees
Illuminating the woods all around with an unearthly glow
It's reflection ripples gently down the stream like a ghostly night light
Leading me down the path of no return
