The wedding party blocks us
Car draped in jasmine and gardenia
Marching band clamoring
Guests behind in their best saris

Ramesh turns to me
Peering out from underneath a jet black lock
Don't say it
I say
It's like you are some dark God
But he ignores me.

Ma'am.
They do not realize that This
Is the last happy day of their lives
Today they drink, eat
Spend lots of rupees
Maybe are even in love Today

But then...
He just looks at me. He knows I know
What he means.
