This morning i sprouted a set of hefty white wings.

They shone in the sunlight like golden scabbards & when i tried to climb into the tub they stabbed through the shower curtain, tearing the mildew covered sheath in two.

i went through my usual routine though, standing in front of the bathroom cabinet & brushing my teeth, flossing the crevices, gargling with mouthwash then aplying deoderant. i lifted my arm for this last bit of upkeep & a wing moved along with it, gently caressing the farthest wall, heavy ivory feathers brushing together with a slight rasp.

At the breakfast table she barely even ackowledged my presence, pouring me a bowl of cereal with nary a word besides a tired good morning. On the radio the latest from the front, a continuing toll of the fallen while we chewed silently, avoiding each other's eyes.

She wouldn't say but i could tell her tummy was bothering her, the little scamp kicking up the dickens, straining against the walls of his short lived cell. i longed to get to my knees, to rub my hands over her bloated belly, brushing lips up against the softly jutting cap of her naval.

i picked up my briefcase on my way out, flying to work.
