I have been around,
Up and down,
A lot of this world I did see –
But I never thought there'd be a you and me!

I have laid in a spider hole.
And wonder what I was doing to my soul.
With more kills than years
Sometime smiling – sometimes in tears.
With the arrogance of youths,
I thought I had all the truths.
But I never thought there'd ever be a you and me!

I guess I have grown jaded,
As my search for truth and right faded.
And the simple truth that most all people are the same,
And, if I really cared -With only God to blame.
But I never thought there'd ever be a you and me!

After the thrill of battle,
When life became just going for the buck,
And the games of business and life dulled my mind,
There was that feeling that I just had to find,
Something to believe in besides myself.
But I never thought there'd ever be a you and me!

I have been so fortunate to have had some ladies,
Who for whatever reason gave me love and solace,
Even tho I didn't care enough about money,
To be able to give them a palace.
But I never thought there'd ever be a you and me!

So fate or God or whatever decided to show me what could have been
Now as I approach the end.
Does it mean that I haven't condemned myself for eternity,
Or is it part of the punishment for being part of the killing fraternity?
A cruel joke – a look at what will never be,
To be so close to someone so heavenly,
Because, there never truly will be a YOU AND ME!

But, the last laugh may belong to me,
For you see,
Whatever fate or God have in store,
I am so grateful for what I have gotten already even it there's nothing more.
Because I never thought there'd ever be a you and me!
Then again - Who knows what tomorrow will be?
