awakened by the alarm's blare
i slap it off and rise to a new day,
stiff from a long night in bed
i stretch and brush the cobwebs from my mind;

away from the soft furrow in my bed
into the slippery wetness of the shower i step;
then,filling the cup that is mine with juice
i'm ready for another work day.

inserting and removing disks from the computer
inputting and extracting data in streams
lounging at work on my chair, eyes closed,
images flickering across the screen unseen;
scenes of nymphs and dryads dancing nude,
of trees and rivers and warm hollows.
silky soft zephyrs blowing among the trees
soft milky clouds dancing on mountain-tops
snakes sliding in and out of their tunnels,
foxes sniffing and digging in their burrows,
hummingbirds driking necter from open-mouthed flowers,
sylvan paradise - away from my gray urban day.

homeward bound in a train rushing,
pounding soft, methodically
racing through tunnels and rushing out suddenly
an eruption from dark to light.

once home i seek the comfort of my special place
in the warmth and softness i relish
enjoying every moment of luxuriance
until the morning brings the next day.
