I can sacrifice money.
It can be counted and curled in my hand
Passed over nameless and known.
I can sacrifice time
Endless moments resting in love
Reclining in its arms
All well spent.
I could sacrifice myself,
Thought and bone and brain,
Skin and sweat and tears
I could never sacrifice love
There is no end to it.
Offering a part of it
Could never stem its tide
I could hold a bit of it in my hand
Pour it to the Earth
Say a prayer
But the Earth knows
It’s barely part of the whole
No sacrifice at all
Easier to sacrifice space
Easier to sacrifice time
Easier to sacrifice me
But love is no sacrifice at all
