You cannot wipe the slate clean;
Grey smudges will always abound.
You can slur the words
But the meaning can still be found.
What you have done is written in my heart
And that is as good as carved in stone.
No job, no care, no help, nothing;
For this, how could you ever atone?
So, I sneak to the classroom
In the night, like a thief
And to the blackboard, I trudge
To write of my anguish, pain, and grief.
You wake up (past noon, of course)
To see my words, in their ghostly hue.
As you wipe away the chalk, with your sleeve,
I leave my mark on you.

~~

A haunting metaphorical write. Relationships may start easy but they never end easy and will really remain with us to the very end.
