Click hereAll was quiet on the battle grounds as the morning light shown through
and all the soldiers held their breaths in hopes of a day renewed.
That the enemy might surrender, and flying high would be a white flag
instead of fighting a senseless war for what seemed a common stand.
A common stand? So many died. So many died a pointless death.
Was it for justice or merely greed? What other reasons were left?
After all the shots were fired and the enemy began to retreat
All the soldiers sat and cheered and bragged of their victory.
Still one young man sat beneath a tree and wiped his tears away.
When asked why his tears were shedding, the soldier refused to say.
For how could he tell his fellow soldiers, his father wore the enemy's beret?
Instead he sat beneath a tree and wiped his tears away.
This war divided a nation, turning man against his son.
And though the battle had not been lost, it still had not been won!
The sentiment expressed here is extraordinary. I loved this poem! Were you thinking of the American Civil War? I think that this illustrates the reality in any of the wars that we hear of in the news today. It is such an anachronistic concept to think that we can solve our problems by fighting it out, but so many people still think so. You really should think about getting this poem circulated in a wider arena.
this should be published as should your other stories. when you do get published I can assure you I will buy several copies. Your the best writer I've seen here!
Thank you soooo much, that is probably one of the nicest comments I've received! :-) You have made my day!!!!
