To a friend, a testament to how distance is no barrier to friendship.
The sunrise looks beautiful from my window.
The birds chirp their dawn melody.
Even as the redness spreads across the sky, replacing the pall of night.
But I don't care.
The girl whose window is across the alley from mine gets up.
She does her aerobics in her tight sports dress.
My neighbours watch on eagerly, cursing they don't have my view
But I don't care.
My toast will never be made on time.
I will always just about have a quick shower.
And reach the subway at the last second.
But I really don't care.
I'm on my laptop,
My mind far removed from the worries of classes
Of evil professors and others
Of surviving on my own far away from my folks
Of the unbearable lightness of being.
All because I have a friend.
An ocean apart, but a mere click away.
Words on a screen have rarely been such a comfort.
And through words, we laugh
We laugh until I escape from the reality that I have to leave.
Well... almost. I still do go.
But my heart is still on our chat. Now on my phone.
The faceless allure is intoxicating.
Addictive. No judgement, no condescension.
Just type your heart out.
Thanks for listening.
Thanks for thinking my jokes are funny.
Thanks for always being there when I need a friend in the morning.
Thanks for putting a smile on my face to start a new day.
Thanks for just being... you.
To someone out there. Someone I count myself blessed to have met, even if over the virtual channels of the internet.
