Under a leaf.
By the back porch light,
A fat brown Toad
Waiting for night.

The light attracts
A bountiful feast,
Beckoning thoughts
Of food to eat.

Poised in shadow,
He sits all alone,
Hoping for a bug
To perch on a stone.

A flash of tongue
And he smacks his lips.
The hapless victim
Is a tasty bit.

He smiles at the thought
Of what he has caught;
But Snake slithers in
And makes it for naught.
