Bright sunbeams through the dusty windows keep
The droning insects going, touch the wall,
Creep to the corner where she lies asleep
And make her stir before they reach the hall.

Stretching slow legs she gets up from her chair,
Stands waiting as if making up her mind
It's time to go outside and get some air
And leave this teatime stuffiness behind –

She stiffly stalks her way across the room,
Her hair gone grey, her cheeks a greyish white,
Evades her son – his blacks still in full bloom –
And proudly bears herself, her tail upright.

Nice verse

I assume it is designed as a pastiche on Gavin Ewart's: "A 14-year old convalescent cat", given it has the same structure and theme?
