Your name cast white on black marble
shaded from the Corpus Christi sun
by a single small tree. The wind whispers
through the leaves in ironic quiet, as flowers
remember -- Selena.
Their petals flow in a rhythm
like the wind through your hair
on a hot Tejano night.
How your voice burned in the heat
of the Texas night. While men longed
to touch your fire, there was more
in your words, in your voice.
Hearing you, little girls cast aside
Barbie dolls, abandoned bleached blonde
fantasy and found, in you, identity.
Now in the shade of a single small tree
they lay the flowers, whisper your name
and remember -- Selena.
And the petals flow in a rhythm
like the wind through your hair
on a hot Tejano night.

a beautiful tribute to the beautiful singing artist, Selena. You express the heartfelt magic she created and deeply impressed in many of us through your words in this piece, and draped in her honor with the ending lines echoing the second. She would be flattered.
