I felt like sitting
in a coffee shop
or on a bus
and being a smart ass
but i poured a cup
in my own kitchen,
sat on my deck,
and was outdone
by the flaking red paint

A woman just across
the dirt road
behind my apartment
was threatening
her workmen
with paychecks
and math equations
'go home lady'
they would say
and get back to work

that's the thing about
sleeping till' twelve
it throws you off
your game

lately I've been
staying up late
but there is no way
of knowing
how much my game
has suffered
