One Man’s War
By Cadee V.

She carried her child in her womb for nine months
She bore her child after a long painful labor
She cuddled and coddled her child
Through illness, accidents and disappointments
Then she stepped back
Giving her child the necessary space
Through the turbulence of adolescence
The uncertainty of young adulthood

And now she waits and worries
Clutching her womb in memory
Her heart contracting in pain
Knowing that so many thousands of miles away
Is the child
She cannot cuddle or coddle
And now she cannot step back from this turbulence

For she put this child into the world
And nurtured it
Now one man’s war
Threatens to take her child out
