One too many times

she’s got up off the ride

Looking for that place

to be alone and hide

The fear welled up within her

She let it steal her away

Now her regret is crashing in

with the light of day

One too many times

she sank into the sand

Giving up the fight

not taking the offered hand

Frustration and confusion like tentacles

encircling and dragging her down

Abandoning all she was

to the mercy of the ground

One too many times

she took her gaze from what she knew

Taking in the what ifs

and believing they were true

Her heart was open

and now she aches

to somehow recover

and learn from those mistakes

For one too many times

the same words uttered and said

have dulled away the senses

the meanings are dead

Speak not, but act

for this is what is true

This is how they will know

who is the real you
