OUR TRUE COLOURS
(Remembering "A Dream of Long Ago")

A

The people who remember me,
Remember me with you,
Remember us in happiness,
Cause happiness was true.

Refrain
When my true colours I can ware,
I'll ware them just for you,
And to the whole world I'll declare,
A dream that came true.

The people who remember us,
They ask me how you are,
I just reply that you are fine,
And hide that you are far.

Refrain
If my true colours I could ware,
I could have brought you near,
If not for love, then to compare,
Feelings confused and clear.

The people who remember us,
They ask me when you'll come,
I say, "soon", hopping, "No more,
Such pain in the bum".

Refrain
When my true colours I will ware,
The truth that will come out,
Will clarify what was unfair,
Beyond reasonable doubt.

B

What were they my true colours when I met you?
I was in love with someone you don't know,
I often asked myself if I should let you,
To take the lead from her and steal the show.

You were to me a painful revelation,
You held a mirror deep into my heart,
You made me see with joy and elation,
That I could really love right from the start.

Whatever my true colours when I met you,
I was in love forever with my wife,
And there was you, entreating me to let you,
Take shape and form and come into my life.

C
Out of the blue one day you appear,
A tourist, a teenager, a dream,
Saying to me all that to you was clear:
That in this life we two should be a team.

How could I explain to you my fear,
Resulting in our funny déjà scru?
You were of flesh and bone, to me too dear,
If love you wanted, I should love you true.

How could I explain to you my doubt?
My dream of long ago coming true,
How could I close my heart and let you out?
Unfair to me, but more unfair to you.

D
How was like my true face when you first saw me,
Just out of an unhappy love affair?
You wanted to discover me, to know me,
And dared the things that angels don't dare.

You saw a man both playful and serious,
Seemingly happy, strong and self-assured,
You didn't suspect that I was just delirious,
And from love's pain wanting to be cured.

You, a young girl, a beautiful temptation,
What were they your true colours when we met?
Your every moment a manifestation,
Of been in love and trying love to get.
(But now you pretend that you forget!)

E
When later on we gave explanations,
It was love at first sight we agreed,
Following fast our inner inclinations,
Forming in love a rather special breed.

Who do you think she was that you don't know,
The one I was in love when we first met?
You were the one, my Dream of Long Ago!
Unlike you, my dream I don't forget.

What were they our true colours when we mated?
Tell me a word or two that have more sense,
The passion and the love we generated,
Those really were our colours, nothing else.
