Fancy dress and masks
- smiles held on sticks -
life's but a ball
and the convex glass
distorts just slightly
the shadows of late
greying evening through
the double windows. Here
the ultimate silence,
ghosts' minuets and a
too clear perception:
on a dark table
a litter of papers, letters
and a pair of gold specs
face down, abandoned -
small lettering reads
better without them and
only the blackbird
still has something to say.

It's in the details, isn't it?

And it's the details that make me like this poem so much! Sometimes, I read better without my glasses, too! :)
