A swift turn of your slender neck,
eyes of soft brown slowly rising;
the tiny curl of your lip unmistakable.

Your cheeks widen as birthing hips
and our gazes meet in formal introduction;
a half-second of doubt hastily retreats.

Two conscious hands rush to my neck
to vainly protect the warm blush;
too late, you've stolen a piece of me.

As I return your awkward smile I ponder
how you touch, without touching;
and why you continue to drive away in my mind.

~~

Quickly touching and being touched; the mystery of love moves on.
