Life is given to us
one piece at a time
like a patchwork quilt
it comes together fine
each day another piece
of our patchwork quilt
we look at pieces given
and the wonders that are built
some pieces are of happy
and shine for ever more
some are dull and gray
but we do not keep a score
it takes the dull and gray
to make the happy shine
and bring our quilt together
one piece at a time
as we wake each day
with new patches, to use
and sew our pattern of life
into, whatever design we choose
we take our bits of happiness
with shadows here and there
and it all comes together
to a quilt bold and fair
so tomorrow another piece
of delightful love and tears
our quilts a work of art
in minutes, days and years
