Maybe they see your face

Look into your eyes

But do they see your soul?

Each day they see no strife

Have yet to feel and carry

The overwhelming pain of another...

They smile

Sometimes anyway

And they pacify

Maybe they try to listen

But they cannot hear you

Somehow they see your life

But in a mixed-up pattern

Out of order

But they cannot understand

How empathy can make you cry

How sadness can't be shaken

And how different you are

From them...

They are surface, glossy finishes, thin veneer.

You can't be transparent...

You are too opaque for them to appreciate.

But one day someone will.
