You hold on with all your might
taking every ounce of strength that you have left.

You see the others letting go,
     giving in to the wind.
     Yet, still you cling.

You do not give up
     when the harsh winds blow.

The cold leaves you numb,
     but still you hang on.

As if in tribute,
     to your long, lost friends,
the last leaf on an autumn tree.

Thanks!

Note from the author. You are exactly right. It is a human metaphor.
