I feel the sting of stead
As I keep warm the sanctuary
intended
for another
to occupy.
Take my place?
It is not mine to possess.
In lieu of solitude
find me
a willing lamb to the slaughter.
Paint the doorway
with my blood,
that the angel of sin
should pass over,
and I may go unnoticed.
Though I feel her shadow upon me
As I stand
helpless and cold
in her darkness
making me eternally aware
that pride of place is hers
and hers alone...

Very good...

I do like your use of metaphor.
