I lift my arms above my head
gather my hair in my fist
pull an elastic around my hair
make a ponytail for you to pull
such a girlish idea, a ponytail
a tangle of blond strands
tamed, gathered

but mine is not a girl’s ponytail
it is a mass of hair
arms strain to collect it
band bulges to contain it
tendril falls loose, then another
not sweet airy curls, but
uncontrolled hair that could get caught
in the works
could cause harm
could spell danger

word association: ponytail
pony tail
pony up
pony ride
ride the pony
one trick pony

pony lifts her tail to
show off
display
flaunt
parade
her ass
she attracts the horse
whose nostrils flare
feet stomp
tongue protrudes
cock hardens

mount pony
wrap legs around pony’s torso
dig heels into pony’s chest
force pony to step
then to saunter
then to run
ride pony
show pony how
how she was created
created to be ridden
to the edge of the paddock
out the gate, into a wood
flanks sweating
breath steaming
cantering, galloping
to the next county
never tiring
