About to cross America
in 12 hours on
a technological miracle
burning blackened dinosaur fossils

Good insurance,
good research,
worries, hopes,
pear sake, marijuana,
pain-pills to keep me
till I get there

In South Florida,
where the oranges
grow all year round,
the modern world,
modern medicine,
the ocean,
and a beach volley-ball court,
await me

They used to leave civilization for Oregon;
now I leave Oregon for civilization.
I love much of what I leave behind,
but I'm going to a new world,
a new and better life to find
