Promise me we'll cook together someday
I'll chop, you direct
Or some days I'll direct
And you can chop
We'll laugh
As we share mundane moments
Flour on my cheek
A burn on your finger
Dinner for two, or three (or more?)
Promise me we'll stand side by side
In the rain
Or the sun
Or the twilight
I won't ask you to promise me
There won't be pain
Or hardship
Or tears
There will be
With love and life
These features come standard
But I will ask you to promise me
You'll hold my hand
Through the bad times
You'll offer me respite
From life's storms
And I will ask you to
Promise me you'll kiss me
Every day
Promise me we'll make music
And laughter
And dinner
Not every night, though
Some nights I'll cook for you
Some nights we can go out
But until that future
Until that 'some day'
I'll dream of those nights
When we cook together
