apart in two directions

one closer to home
the other further east

throw a stone splash
it skips across water

i sob at night
deep crying
in this lonely hole

as i try to sleep
while living yet
another night
dream about you

i try to sleep
watching time pass
on the ceiling

while somewhere
above clouds
the moon sails
overhead

and warm shivers across my skin

i toss and turn
and ache as the
sweat drips from
my brow

while i toss and turn
and ache and crush my
pillow out of shape

back and forth trying
to find some simple
cooling sensation

as the sheets of my bed
crumple up into waves and
dunes – a desert at my feet

and my naked body lost and alone
exposed to the elements of a
warm muted orange darkness – a touch
of light from the world outside

like the edge of your soul – a warm
muted orange darkness peeking out at me
from behind a door with wide eyes like
those of an innocent child

so distant and so near

what can it tell me

where can i go
