Like a thief, it comes
Stealing joy
Stealing light
Shredding life’s fabric
Echoing through my dreams
     Nightmares
Coloring existence, shades
     Purple and black
Awakening
Sense of futility, bleak
Compass lost
Game lost
Penalty
     Agony
Only game in town
Setting the jaw
     Setting the scene
     Settling the score
Upsetting the applecart
Rattling my cage
Rising again, floodwaters
     Rising to the occasion
     Temperature rising
Mortality’s cold hand upon my shoulder
Death’s chill running down my back
Focusing on the present
Focusing on the rose
     Out of focus
     Out of time
     Out of my mind
Pain cascades ‘cross tremulous skin
Tremors, quakes
     After-shocks
     After hours
     After the fact
Like a thief, lurking
Stealing the moments
Stealing the joy
Still standing
No surrender
No quarter
Grappling with mortality, dead refusal
     Dead on
     Dead reckoning
Kneeling to none
Unto death

PURE EMOTION

Undistilled emotion wonderfully translated into word. Thank you.
