Her mysteries
stay locked;
secrets untold
behind closed eyes
and still lips.

Is this really everything?
Nothing more to say and
never an explanation?
Unwilling to tell him
fears or hopes,
dreams or nightmares

No passionate embrace
of star-crossed lovers;
no fiery moments,
no memorable lines,
no last kiss.

She steps one way
and he moves another;
their hands not reaching,
eyes looking away,
all the poetry unsaid.

No goodbyes,
just a “see you later”.
Their one last lie.

One last lie ...

*sigh* And our lies to ourselves the coldest of all.
