ATHENS
5/12/2017

(The name of R.I.P. [rest in peace] Van Winkle is used here as a synonym of someone that has slept for a long time and has no other connection with the original tale by Washington Irving)

R.I.P. VAN WINKLE

The hundred years that should have passed,
while Rip Van Winkle was sleeping,
in forward motion they were rushed,
in one short night's watch keeping.

Now that young man woke up still young,
but old was his granddaughter,
cheerful he was and highly strung,
I'll bet, in sex was hotter.

- "I only had my forty winks
and you have lost your marbles?
To feel your every change stinks,
and find this world in shambles?"

- "Don’t worry Granda, all is fine,
we have a welfare state,
sometimes it's called "Fog on the Tyne",
and cursed by every fate,

but that is all we have for you,
and care will sure be taken,
to give you all that is your due,
see now? You're not forsaken!"

- "Stick your fair state up your arse,
cherish it while it fits you,
I only want out of this farce,
it is yourself that eats you".

So, Rip Van Winkle went back asleep,
and gone was all his tension,
Death took the rest in endless deep,
but Life was their intention.
