I found someone,

Sweet gentle loving and kind

Who lived in a world he hated

That he hadn’t created

And I took him out and showed him things

Things that were important to me

Art and nature and music and thought

And he said thank you for opening my mind

For helping me, for listening when no one else would.

He found someone,

And I was glad

He could open his heart to her and share

All the love he’d kept hidden inside

And she loved him,

And I was glad,

Because he was loveable

Sweet gentle loving and kind

But she was hurt herself inside,

Full of broken glass

And she cut him, hurt him, and changed him

And now all the words he has for me

Is I hate you

He smiles when others are around

And walks away when they aren’t.

He wears the same face,

Smiles the same smile,

And I look at him and think:

He’s the same, and I still care

But it’s not true,

And who he is now makes everything else he said a lie

Where is the person who was

Sweet gentle loving and kind?
