Real Love

This poem along with several others, were written for a very dear friend who was in a long term
abusive relationship. It was my way of trying to help her see the truth of the relationship and
give her the courage to leave.



Real love should be tender,
Your love is harsh.
Real love should be admiration,
Your love is contempt.
Real love should be assurance,
Your love is insecurity.
Real love should be nurturing,
Your love is unappreciative.
Real love should be respect,
Your love is disregard.
Real love should be patient,
Your love is antagonistic.
Real love should be accepting,
Your love is judgmental.
Real love should be wonderful,
Your love is killing me.
