I breathed in deeply and exhaled slowly
Something makes me feel like I'm recovering.
It's not the weather, cuz it's raining
And I don't feel like singing,
But I feel content, though a little hollow
Maybe in time I'll feel filled.
You helped me, you know,
By just being here for me
By holding me together when I felt broken
By loving me for me in spite of me.
Each time you put your hands on my shoulders,
And kissed my forehead gently,
I knew you were my only love,
I knew I'd make it through recovery.
My past life is full of regrets
I can't go back and make things right
But I can start anew
And learn a better view on life.
Each time you held me,
And whispered things I couldn't believe,
I realized how much you cared, really.
Every time you kissed me
Or pointed out a bright star in the dark night,
My heart would stop a few beats,
And I could love you without trying.
I have so much to thank you for
Even on my darkest days,
You never gave up
You always had a grin on your face.
You would pull me up in the morning
And jump with me on the bed
You invented marshmellow fights
And always made me laugh.
Thanks to you I'm recovering
It might take awhile
But I know I'll be free
Because amongst the pain you made me smile.
