Staring in the mirror
I see you,
and I can't help but wonder
If you're staring in the mirror too,
and if you see me.
And if we see each other,
then ultimately,
does that make us one in the same?
Two peas in a pod,
with three blind mice choosing the game?
It's easy as one, two, three,
to get lost in thoughts of you,
and not want to find my way back
from Never Neverland.
But if I could understand
what it was that allowed you
to get under my skin,
then maybe I could begin
to have some control of my heart again.

However, I've retired my gloves,
fighting it is pointless,
'cause this match was an upset,
as soon as our eyes met.
And I bet my heart,
and then lost it.
Just another love TKO,
and not the top hit.

So I've no other choice but to write this,
since,
that first moment you spoke,
you stole my breathe,
and my heart.
And apart from everything else that was going on,
you always found time to be on my watch,
and then stop it,
seeing as every second we're together feels like forever.
And whether I cross your path,
or your mind,
it brings me pleasure,
because the power of YOUR presence,
could heat EVERY home in America.
And it's what energizes my daily drive,
over this rainbow that you've paved to be our bridge.

It leaves me thirsting for more,
so I lap at the vast abundance of you,
whenever you're around,
like a puppy after playing hard.
Which is what I need you to be.
Solid,
Like an old oak tree.
For me to lean on in my times of need.
Something I can feed off of when I can't afford to eat.
And maybe you,
could meet me,
somewhere in the middle,
and we can fiddle around with this wiring,
to see if we in fact DO connect.

And I don't expect to find a whole lot of negatives,
in this you + me relationship,
but if things begin to feel overdrawn,
then I'll contact the auditors of the real world,
and ask them if they could erase the past,
because presently,
it's our hearts that are weighing heavy.

Steady she goes for now,
and I'm ready to see this through,
full speed ahead.
You're MY North Star,
guiding me through these seas.
High tide is coming in,
and no longer can we see the broken shells of our past failed attempts.
Instead I'd rather tie a rope around my heart,
and give you the other end,
wearing a sign that reads "under tow,"
just so I can drown myself in the idea of us together.

And it explains why,
when I'm not with you,
I miss you.
Why I always wish to kiss you.
And if you were a fifth,
I'd drink you till there was no more.
Then rush to my car to go back up to the store.

Just before I sat down to write this,
I closed my eyes and scrolled through the typeset,
but instead,
I chose to hand write it in all caps,
since this is the kind of story that just looks good in big print.

Even though quite some time has passed,
that I told you then how I felt,
and since have dealt with the circumstances.
Weighed my options and my chances.
And the only thing that's changed,
is the length of my hair.

And still I stare in awe at the light that perceives you,
and a lot of times,
I can't understand how you can't see it too...

But I've started carrying a mirror in my pocket,
and maybe one day,
I can help you see,
exactly what it is that you reflect to me.

This is the most beautiful poem I have ever read. I am in love like that. This touched me deeply.
