From the corner I watch

In silence, in darkness, my breath catches

My body quivers, my mind reaches out

Lips form the word and whisper your name

You have smiles for them, sweet words and laughter

There is no thought of me

My presence causes you pain

Your feelings towards me cause you grief

Ignore me, avoid me, eventually you’ll forget me

I have sorrow deep within, my belly sickens at the core

Lost once again, a gaze filled with longing at the warmth you give to others

Floundering alone, bitter cold seeping into my bones

My heart a block of ice and my soul, hollow

Sweet and submissive, once surrendered to the Master

Trampled down to nothingness, tears frozen in empty eyes

You gave me life and flight and hope

You showed me the way to serve

You took from me what I needed to give

And you gave it back in trembling hands

My service hurt you, confused you

My desires made you ache

I have been released, let go, set aside

And yes, I am not free, bound still to you

Imaginary chains of steel and strips of leather tie this soul to its Master
