We remain the three of us
At café lonely hearts
Lingering over warm drinks
      talking of
Loves past
Or love denied

And then a current story
Heart broken
  feelings new
    story old

We listen
All remembering
Stories shadowed in

The crevices of private memory

              " It's over",
                     she says

Just words, words

  Just so many words

Because
It's never over

Knowingly

   Under the soft half smiles
       each trying to erase
         pain remembered

 We finish coffee,

    tea

        and coca
Leaving tip
    and thin shallowed blanket
         of denial
lifts too soon
Lingering pain revealed
Inside still
Resting at hearts floor
Oozing droplets of
Poisoned regret
    sour memory
Marking edged time
Floating against clock
To each her own
   Thoughts of ever loving again
