I watch us trip over the same jagged stones
Repeating patterns over and again
Observing our mistakes, no promises made
Trying to avoid any pain
I mirror yourself
Or so you may think
And so you hide away
And while I would wait forever
I refuse to linger
If you do not want me to stay

I have battled and rallied and fallen to rise
I have stumbled and cracked and screamed up at the skies
I have vanquished and perished and been created anew
But it seems though I should conquer world,
I am never going to move you

Strong woman, tripping
Heel caught in the crack
Don’t you remember when it was
you didn’t need that?
Be honest, little bird,
were you ever truly free?
Or were you merely flying above the cloud
Of your own insecurities?

Heart skipping, head reeling,
crying for help
Didn’t you feel the distance
In spite of yourself?
Open your eyes
Don’t play the fool
Lust is a liar
Pull your hand back
The last thing you want
Is to be the flame
That was burned by the fire

Trust in the Gods
It will be alright
Love shall find you once more
Take a deep breath and cling to what’s left
Of the you that you once loved before
“A flame I am and forever shall be
Burning for all to find
For the passion and grace
Found of my embrace
Are not the only gifts that the Gods made mine!”

Breathe and rise above the confusion
Raging in your head
Reach out your spirit to the void
Listen to the dead:
“Flesh and sinew fade to dust
Foundationless houses will fall
Communion of flesh without the spirit
Weakens the hearts of all

“Do not give yourself cheaply
You are worth so much more than you know
Do not settle for less-than
While caught in the afterglow
Do not imagine changing
Will alter the situation
All you do is sacrifice your soul
Trading true happiness for temptation

“If they were that into you
They would ask you if they could call
They would want to be there to catch you
when you stumble and fall
If they were that into you
They would be the first to text
There would be no question about the past
Or what would happen next”

And while kindness may be the thing
That withholds the inevitable
Kinder still, it seems to me
To speak before it becomes untenable
Lovers come and lovers go
But a true brother or sister is a love without an end
I would rather a friend that unreservedly loves
Than a lover who is afraid to be a friend

Rhyming poetry is a lost art. This is beautiful and vividly descriptive, and the last line is very powerful.
