She finalized it
with her vicious fishwife-words.
He'd waited years for a change,
a sign, for courage,
for hope.
And now, relieved of all pretense,
the oppressive, expensive house
impressing no one,
only her.
Rid of the demanding, immaculate garden
and the strangling stuff
she bought to feed a need,
heal her hatred.
Happily free of all trappings,
the snares and sneers served up daily
over the years of unholy matrimony,
the icy lack of desire
he leaves on air.
Sleep-walking wearily
through the motions of marriage,
lonely for too long
now finally,
joyfully
alone.
