Restart

Author's note: this poem is a classic rock anthem written for the fictional ethno-rock band, Dragon's Sons, in my upcoming story Midlife Magic. Hope you like it! :)

For years I've struggled in a vicious circle
of trying to fit into molds that weren't meant for me
Today I stop the fighting
instead I'm gonna write me
my own path,
hope and trust,
that every man can choose his life if he'd start
to believe in the dreams in his heart

This is the time, it's the day, it's the moment
to get outta here, face the world on my own

to finally find where the hell in the world I belong

The past is so far gone I can't remember
if anything was ever right before it all went wrong
the hiding and the lying
the fighting and the crying
break apart
and restart
to shape my life the way I need it to be
to create my own space and be free

Yes it could be risky
I may never get it right
But I know that if I stay here
I'll just shrivel up and die
