I know I am your resting place
before you carry on
with whatever makes you run
into a night of cold dreams.
You want to touch the dawn,
You are reaching out to me,
And then you will move on
Your hunger you can't see.
But I know it's there
and I can't be the one
to let you strip me bare
and leave my heart empty.
You know it's what you want
if it's what you can't have
Your needs become a part
of the presence you flee.
You tell yourself it's love
and I,m sure it could be
everytime you feel it
But you must not love me.
I'll not bear the scars
of those you have touched
and wonder or fear
that I cared too much
Once you have gone
You'll have finished with me
I will become a distant memory
which you'll do to move on
and I understand
leave me as you found me
A resting place...a friend
