Revelation – a Villanelle

Stupid me, at last I learned the score
Once I loved her face so plain and good --
'Tis a pity Rainy was a whore.

When asked to help, she did and more,
When asked to give, gave everything she should --
Stupid me, at last I learned the score.

Warm and kind and gentle to the core,
Her honesty like fragrant applewood --
'Tis a pity Rainy was a whore.

Two women hid behind that mask she wore,
The naughty one suppressed as best she could --
Stupid me, at last I learned the score.

So false the simple, modest clothes she wore,
Dates made by texting whom she would --
'Tis a pity Rainy was a whore.

Each afternoon, her house, its open door,
The tips she took expressed the client's mood,
Evenings spent with hubby and their brood.
Stupid me, at last I learned the score --
'Tis a pity Rainy was a whore.
